First, the “heart” of the product:
Our kantha throws are so much more than just a throw. By the creation of these beautiful items, the makers are now employed in work that brings dignity and livelihood and a brighter future. It is providing the women a fair wage, support, childcare, and ongoing education. Often these women were victims of trafficking and were at risk of, or are leaving, sex work. The throws take days to make (average of 3 days or 23 hours) and signify a new beginning. You are truly buying so much more than a blanket.
Now, the “details” of the product:
Kantha throws are six layers of vintage saris, carefully hand-stitched together by women in Bangladesh using a traditional kantha stitch. Read more about “kantha” here.
All throws are made of 100% reclaimed cotton sari cloth.
The Bohemian Collective sources all kantha products through “Basha”. Read more about Basha and their mission here.
- Throws are approximately 1 metres X 2 metres.
Each throw is truly one-of-a-kind with it’s own unique variations.
